Organic Lamb All sheep kept at Galileo Farm are Charolais, Mule, Clun or Border Leicester breeds. The flock run together for the majority of the year, with the males being separated off in April and allowed back in August. This stops the lambs being born to early.
A few sheep and lambs out on the pasture The flock tends to naturally stagger the lambing period. We scan the female sheep, ewes, in November and again in January to allow the ewes to be separated and fed depending how many lambs they are carrying and when they are due. We start lambing in January and go through to April. This ensures that we have lambs finishing throughout the year to meet the needs of customers. Most of the ewes come into the barn to lamb with just the last few lambing in the field. The lambs stay with there mother's until August when they are weaned and then stay in groups of lambs until they fit. Lambs are taken to a slaughter house approx. 15 miles from home for slaughter and butchering. This ensures that they endure limited stress and the meat is as good as it gets. If you are interested in trying some of our organic lamb then please go to the shop marked lamb where you will find a variety of different cuts. |
