Organic Heritage Turkey
Our organic bronze turkey is a traditional heritage breed supplied fresh with giblets. These are reared longer and have a different shape, being longer in the breast and legs. Fresh turkeys are only available for Easter and Christmas.
The average weight of a Heritage Turkey would be 8 - 16lbs / 4 - 7.5kg
The turkeys are either bought to the farm as day old having been hatched from eggs laid by organic turkeys or this year we managed to hatch some of our own eggs. The turkeys are reared inside for a few weeks before they are old enough to venture out to pasture. They remain out on pasture only going inside at night until early December.
At this time they are taken to the on farm slaughtering facility. The birds are then hung to improve the flavour and texture of the meat before being ready for customers to collect or to be couriered out in time for Christmas.
